What better way to have an intimate relationship with your surfboard than to build it yourself.

Surfboard building courses are run full time over an entire week at the Flowstate workshop in Mountain River, half an hour south of Hobart. Numbers will be limited to six students per course, although couples and parent/children groups are welcome to enroll as a ‘single’ student*.

Courses run from 9am to 5pm (some days we will finish a bit later), Saturday to Friday. Students are welcome to camp on our riverside property during the course. We will cook lunches on the outdoor barbecue or inside, depending on the weather.

Courses cost $1500 per student*, which covers all tools and materials. By the end of the course, you will have a surfboard ready for glassing. See Glassing for further options.

A $500 deposit is required to secure your place and to get templates made up for your chosen board. The balance can be paid by the start of the course.

When you book a place, let us know what sort of board you would like to build, whether it’s one of our existing models, or if you have something else in mind. Also think about whether you would like to glass on the fins, or use a removable system.

Courses will be scheduled when there is sufficient interest, and groups are welcome. If you would like a course to be run in your local area, contact us.
Visit our news page or contact me for details on the latest course dates and locations.

*We are very open to couples, parents with a child, or similar groups enrolling as a ‘single’ student and working together on a board. If you wish to work on a board with more than one person, there will be a small premium to cover tools, etc. Contact us to discuss options.
*There is a small premium for boards over 7 foot in length. Prices will be confirmed when discussing board options.
